Harenyuntong Tech Joins Hands with the Shanghai
Supercomputer Center to Boost the Development of NEVs and Intelligent Vehicles with the “Super Brain”

  • Harenyuntong Tech signed an agreement for strategic cooperation with the Shanghai Supercomputer Center (SSC) and Shanghai Supercomputer Tech (SSCT) to build the “Harenyuntong-SSC Sub-center for R&D”

Harenyuntong Tech led by “Auto Man” David Ding signed an agreement for strategic cooperation with the Shanghai Supercomputer Center (SSC) and Shanghai Supercomputer Tech (SSCT) here today. The three parties will collaborate with each other in various areas including high-performance computing, NEVs & intelligent connection, autonomous driving, AI computing platform, big data, and information security. They will also help to drive the accelerated the application of new technologies in intelligent NEVs by jointly building the “Harenyuntong-SSC Sub-center for R&D”.

Harenyuntong Tech Chairman David Ding says that there are major opportunities in our country’s industry of NEVs and intelligent vehicles, and the application of new technologies and new models for intelligent connection, autonomous driving, and vehicle sharing has presented new issues and new requirements for intelligent computing, big data, cybersecurity, and information security. He says that Harenyuntong Tech will leverage the “Super Brain” of SSC to develop technologies and products in areas including NEVs, new materials, intelligent connection, autonomous driving, as well as the intelligent management of transportation sharing, and to industrialize them. Meanwhile, Harenyuntong Tech will also collaborate with SSC in areas including project consulting, big data, cloud computing, and AI, according to him.
High-performance computing resource is the infrastructure for information technology, and supercomputers as the main tools for computation and simulation are one of the key means for technology innovation. SSC Director Zhou Ximin says that SSC has provided support for a large number of major scientific research and engineering projects as well as product development projects of the national government and local governments, and has achieved major results in multiple areas such as aviation, nuclear energy, new materials, astronomy, physics, and chemistry. As the country’s first public service platform for high-performance computing that is open to the public, well-equipped and fully functional, and has resources for sharing, by deepening collaboration with Harenyuntong Tech, SSC hopes to provide strong support and resources for R&D activities in the frontiers. SSC also hopes to leverage its expertise as a major science facility in areas including NEVs, intelligent connection and AI as well as its advantage in engineering resources as a big data infrastructure to explore the application blue ocean in new territories.
It is said that SSC previously already completed a number of major engineering projects such as the aerodynamic simulation of the cabin of ARJ21, a plane of which China owns the intellectual property rights; the large-scale numeric analysis during the construction process of Shanghai’s Yangtze River tunnel using a tunnel boring machine (TBM); and the anti-seismic design of the underground works of the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF). The center is now participating in the development of the prototype of the next-generation E-class high-performance computer led by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The pre-development system of the E-class computer and its application will be deployed in mid-2018. Our country’s E-class computer will be announced around 2020, and its speed will be 10 times faster than the world’s fastest computer today.

Harenyuntong Tech President Phil Murtaugh signed the agreement for strategic cooperation together with Li Genguo, Deputy Director of SSC, and Ding Junhong, Deputy General Manager of SSCT. Under the agreement, the three parties will jointly build the “Harenyuntong-SSC Sub-center for R&D”, and will build platforms for the autonomous driving of intelligent vehicles powered by new energy as well as for the AI-based learning, computing and analyzing, to further increase the overall operating efficiency and lower the OPEX, to increase the influence of each party in areas related to automotive development, and to maximize the value for the companies and the society.
